It was her first time at 15 years old. Mitchell wrote Angela as the very first track in her album. It was a difficult experience for Mitchell. Mitchell also talked about this incident on Chicken Soup of the Preteen Soul and the 7th Heaven episode, Nothing Endures But Change. Her close friend Angela died in a tragic car accident in the year she turned fifteen years old. Mitchell discovered this to be incredibly hard and Angela was the source of inspiration for her song Angel the song, which is on her debut album. She also wrote about the experiences in her book Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul as well as the 7th Heaven episode Nothing Endures But Change.
